Hello, friends! I have just published my second novella! It is available for free on itch.io so please go check it out!

It is called Escape to the Isle of Dragons, and it is about a young trans woman and the shapeshifting dragon she steals from a military base where the government is experimenting on her. It has dragons, it has mechs, it has cool fight scenes, it even has a flying boat.

Please go check it out and maybe give it a read if it sounds interesting to you. And if you like it, please tell all your friends!

Y'all don’t know what rural love looks like. Y'all don’t know. We got 6'2" burly fellas rolling in from the logging camps like “yeah I’m looking for a packer for my boyfriend”. We got welders coming in after work and you gotta ask em to scrape off their boots at the door and their hands are black with gunk so we gotta help em sift through the strap ons. Three ladies come in wearing floral dresses with their hair in rings like they just got out of church and you ain’t sure if they’re together or just friends but when they leave they’re all holding hands and one gives another a kiss. Old fella with a walker comes in for some lacy lingerie. 85 year old widow is going on a first date since her husband passed. People are people all over the place, it’s not different when you can’t see it

Nah, because one time I, a girl from Texas (the great green yeehaw) listened to a girl I can only describe as Western Gothic describe to me in detail how she pegged her boyfriend. Who is on the baseball team, has a mullet and a country accent, and is about 6 inches taller than she is. And then he picked her up after school, happy as could be in his Ford pickup! Literally, she brightened. And so did he. It was adorable.

Rural love is amazing in its eclectic nature.

i go to a gay bar and notice the furry convention’s in town. i see a fine lookin bear remove his fursuit, revealing that underneath, he’s also a fine lookin bear. I raise my eyebrows and say “woof” and all the cat furries immediately hiss and scatter

I have now read (and annotated) Salvatore Fabris’ 1606 manuscript Art of Dueling (technically the section “On Sword Alone” but that’s kind of the core of it) and I gotta say: do not follow in my foot steps. Do not be like me. Do not read this book. It forced me to read I the way my freshman English Lit teacher wanted me to and I’ll got was a keen appreciation for the lack of pedagogical skill mi bambina has on display.

PSA to printed zine makers

As a 37 year old who’s been running a sole proprietorship for the last 10+ years, I just want everyone who is planning to run a fandom project that involves accepting money for printing & shipping costs to know that you’re actually running a small business and you need to plan for taxes. It doesn’t matter if you don’t make any profit: that is business income and the IRS will see it as such if you get audited.

If you only take enough money in to cover the cost of printing & shipping then you can write that off as a business expense and probably not pay taxes on it, But in order for that to fly you actually have to do business accounting, especially if you’re doing it at scale. Like, you can probably skate by without reporting a $500 project; I absolutely would not fucking risk it with a $5000 project.

Back when I was producing shows there were years when I was where I made $20k in ticket sales only to turn around and immediately pay $18k to my performers. I only made $2k for myself, but I had to report the entire $20k, because it was ALL INCOME. (I only paid taxes on the $2000, because that’s how writing off expenses works!)

Yeah this is boring grownup shit and I’m getting my boring grownup fingers all over your fun fandom, but boring grownups doing boring grownup things are the reason fandom spaces exist at all (paying for servers is deeply boring), and I’m way more fun than an audit

i see a post talking doom and gloom about how we’ll never escape toxic masculinity. i think about back in 2017 when american girl released their first boy doll, and a review for him went viral in the collecting community. the review was written by a mom, who said they went into the store to get their daughter a doll, only to see their son’s eyes light up like fire when he saw a doll that looked like him, and now every night he puts his doll in pajamas and rocks him to sleep. i think about the toddler in my daycare room a few years back who was obsessed with baby dolls, carrying them everywhere, and his mom proudly told us he uses his sisters’ old baby dolls and wants to be just like them. that toddler saw another toddler crying one day and gave her the doll he had to cheer her up. i think about the eight-year-old boy i saw a few years back, excitedly waving around raya’s sword in a target checkout line like all his dreams were coming true. there was a video on my instagram the other day of a little boy at disneyworld crying with joy upon meeting his hero, mulan. i think about the voice actor for bow in the she-ra reboot saying his nephews only wanted adora action figures. celebrity men are wearing dresses on tv now. last halloween i saw a little boy dressed as elsa. i went to go see spiderverse over the summer, and in the line ahead of me was a boy who couldn’t be older than twelve or thirteen, bouncing and beaming, giddy with excitement over getting to see the female-led romance movie elemental. i think about the five-year-old boy at my library who breathlessly asked me where the pinkalicious books were, eyes widening when i had more on my cart, his mom explaining that he is all about pinkalicious and fancy nancy. i saw so many pictures online of boys and men dressed in pink to see barbie. teenage boys are gonna open their phones and see the man who wrote fucking game of thrones dressed in pink to see barbie. when i was a kid, a boy dressing in pink was practically a social death sentence. there are boys running around in pink on my street right now.

The face of a fucking coward.

More on this today - looks like Scottish Labour have done a complete 180 on GRR.

If any of the ‘good eggs’ in Scottish Labour had a spine there would be resignations. Do not trust any of them.

Regarding G-Witch

I’ve seen a lot of memes claiming that Bandai-Namco “de-canonised” the ending of the show. I can’t be more clear that this is not true.

Bandai attempted to claim that the ending is basically vague and open to viewer interpretation. It’s not, the show is very clear about what is going on in those last few scenes.

Please watch the show. It’s not queerbaiting and the ending you get is still canon. Is Bandai essentially trying to censor the show via PR? Yes, they are and they are cowards for it, but WFM is still true to itself.
